Uploading the wrong dimensions is why profile photos sometimes get cropped strangely or a post looks stretched. Platforms don't reject the wrong size — they just crop or resize it for you, and the automatic result isn't always what you'd have chosen. Here's what each platform actually expects as of 2026.
- Square post: 1080 × 1080px
- Portrait post: 1080 × 1350px (the tallest a feed post displays without extra cropping)
- Story / Reel: 1080 × 1920px
